Our Member Spotlight this month shines on Dr. Erin Reardon, a longtime Cecil County resident, physician, and health and wellness entrepreneur whose work now reaches people across the United States and Canada.
Originally from Buffalo, New York, Dr. Reardon completed her undergraduate education and medical school there before completing her Emergency Medicine residency in Morristown, New Jersey. She practiced Emergency Medicine in New Jersey for about 10 years before moving to Cecil County in 2009 for her husband’s career at the University of Delaware.
Her first local position was at Union Hospital in Elkton, and over the years she also worked within the Christiana Care and Bayhealth systems for 13 years. What began as a move for her husband’s career quickly became much more.
“Cecil County very quickly became home for our family, both personally and professionally. This is where we raised our family, built friendships, worked, volunteered, and eventually started the business that completely changed the direction of my own career.”
After years of working in the emergency department, Dr. Reardon began noticing recurring patterns among her patients. Many were experiencing varying degrees of the same metabolic health problems, often accompanied by many of the same medications. At the same time, she began thinking more seriously about her own health.
Together with a close friend and neighbor who was an ER nurse, Dr. Reardon began studying nutrition and metabolic health and putting what they learned into practice with their own families. That experience ultimately became the beginning of her business.
Today, what started with a few families has grown into a community reaching people throughout the United States and Canada. Through an interactive app, members receive education, support, coaching, and opportunities for connection throughout their day. For Dr. Reardon, one of the greatest rewards has been watching that community grow and helping others share what they learn.
“I spent most of my career saving lives inside an emergency department. Now I get to help people understand that you do not have to go to medical school to positively influence someone’s health.”
She is also expanding a team of coaches who can bring that knowledge into their own families and communities.
Despite having an audience of thousands across North America, Dr. Reardon says she still meets people in Cecil County who aren’t familiar with her work. That was one of the reasons she became involved with the North East Chamber of Commerce.
“There are people in our own community spending tremendous amounts of money searching for answers to improve their health, while resources and education may be available right in their backyard.”
For Dr. Reardon, the Chamber offers an opportunity to build connections with local businesses, organizations, community leaders, and families. While much of her audience interacts with her through Zoom, videos, and her app, being local gives her the opportunity to teach and connect with people in person.
And after more than 17 years in Cecil County, it is that sense of connection that she loves most about the community.
“What I love most about Cecil County is that it still feels like one big family. You can introduce yourself by your first name, and someone immediately wants to know your last name so they can figure out who they know that knows you, how they may already be connected to you, or who they should introduce you to next.”
She says Cecil County has been a wonderful place to raise her family, surrounded by people who knew and supported her children.
“That sense of community is incredibly special, and it is one of the reasons I am so excited to become even more involved locally.”
